Description
Derek Kim is a senior associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group in Dentons’ Toronto office. He has a wide range of experience with a focus on commercial litigation, employment and labour, and construction law. He routinely represents owners, architects, consultants, contractors, and subtrades on claims for lien and breach of trust under the Construction Act. His expertise extends to representing clients before private arbitrators, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Divisional Court.

Derek earned his Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University with Distinction before pursuing his Juris Doctor at Queen’s University, Faculty of Law. At Queen’s University, Derek received the Faculty of Law Dean’s Council Diversity Award and the Dr. Stanley Harwood McCuaig Scholarship for the highest standing in Property Law. During his studies, Derek also spent a semester abroad at Seoul National University and the University of Hong Kong.

Derek is a volunteer with the Korean Legal Clinic and a former Director and Treasurer of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association.
