Description
Teddy is a Senior Counsel at Walsh LLP who practices in the areas of Civil and Commercial Litigation, Estate Litigation and Dispute Resolution, and Employment Law.

Teddy was raised on his family’s west-central Alberta cattle ranch, and credits his rural, western upbringing for his no-nonsense, pragmatic approach to the practice of law. Early in life Teddy learned that handshakes, and the relationships and commitments they forge, are sacred things. His approach to each client’s legal situation is to avoid getting mired down by insignificant, peripheral matters, but rather to concentrate on the core fundamental issues at hand, and then formulate and put into action the most effective legal strategy to accomplish his clients’ goals.

Admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1996, Teddy practiced briefly in securities law and thereafter has accumulated over 20 years’ experience in civil litigation focused primarily in the areas of corporate and commercial disputes, creditors rights, real estate disputes, breaches of contractual and fiduciary duties, construction litigation, estate litigation, and employment litigation. Teddy has advocated for his clients before all the Alberta Courts (Provincial, Queen’s Bench, and Appeal), the Federal Court of Canada, CCAA Adjudications, and numerous Judicial Dispute Resolutions, plus private Arbitrations and Mediations.

While obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta, Teddy received the Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship, awarded annually to undergraduate students in Alberta who achieve the top 1% in academic standing in their program of studies. Thereafter, Teddy earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia, where he also received the UBC Law Prize in Evidence.

Not surprising with his ranching roots, Teddy has a passion for horses and the sport of rodeo…specifically the event of team roping. Teddy has won numerous Alberta and Canadian Championships in this event, both as a “Header” and a “Heeler”, and still competes when time permits. Teddy is a firm believer in the Winston Churchill quote that “there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of man”. When he’s not working, or roping, you might also find Teddy relaxing and fishing at his recreational property on the Highwood River at the south end of Kananaskis Country, or even occasionally strategizing from behind a – hopefully large – stack of chips at a Texas Hold’em poker tournament.
