Benjamin is a Partner at Walsh LLP who practices in the areas of Civil and Commercial Litigation, and Estate Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

Ben is a partner at Walsh and a hard-working member of a wide variety groups and organisations, and a philanthropist. His practice is focused primarily on estate, wills and trust litigation, and commercial litigation, and he is an arbitrator and meditator for parties in those matters. Despite all that – and an impressive shoe collection – Ben dances with his mind and his ready wit, not his feet.

A curiosity for learning, the ability to adapt to new situations, and a relentless dedication to creative problem solving define Ben’s career and approach to serving his clients. Ben was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and grew up on a grain farm. The daily challenges of the ancient farm equipment taught him about perseverance and the value of finding unique solutions to equally unique problems.

After a short journey from Saskatchewan to Alberta for his undergraduate degree – and back to Saskatchewan to earn his law degree – Ben settled in Calgary where he established a remarkable and diverse practice. His expertise and achievement now extend far beyond the walls of Walsh. Ben has served as the Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Civil Litigation section and the Wills & Trusts section. He also served on the Construction section executive and is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution section. Ben has served as president of the Rotary Club of Calgary West and on Rotary District committees, and on local foundation and charity boards and committees that are meaningful to him.

Ben’s taste for travel, community, and experiences drive him to travel often, study languages, and pursue a passion for photography. The same natural and genuine sense of empathy for others and their circumstances and advocating for less empowered people that is at the core of his professional approach also fuels his personal life, as he loves to discover and tell stories that connect people with each other.
