Matthew Tai is an associate practising in the Corporate Group. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, securities, corporate governance, and general corporate and commercial law.

Professional Activities
Matthew is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
Background
Before joining Stikeman Elliott, Matthew worked in politics and government relations, where he advised Ontario’s top political leaders and C-suite executives across a wide range of sectors, including some of Canada’s most heavily regulated industries.

Matthew obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa, where he was the Volume 54 Editor-in-Chief of the Ottawa Law Review and graduated with the Common Law Section Dean’s Award. He also represented the University of Ottawa at the 2022 Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot held in London, UK, where he was awarded Honourable Mention Advocate and placed fifth globally.

Matthew is proficient in Cantonese and Mandarin.
