Description
Jim Harbell retired from the partnership on June 30, 2018, but continues his relationship with the firm as a counsel/advisor on various project matters. Jim was Head of the Project Development & Finance Group, the former Head of the Real Estate Group in the Toronto office, the former Co-Head of the Energy Group and served on the Partnership Board. He provided strategic advice in a broad range of matters involving real estate development, mergers and acquisitions in the energy and infrastructure areas, regulatory approvals and related project finance matters for municipalities, public agencies and private investors and developers.

During Jim’s almost 30-year career with the firm, his expertise has been recognized by numerous legal publications such as Chambers Canada 2018 and Chambers Global 2018 as a leading lawyer in Energy: Power (Transactional), The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2018 in Energy (Electricity), Property Development and Infrastructure, The Legal 500 Canada 2018 in Energy: Power, The Best Lawyers in Canada 2018 in Energy Law, Energy Regulatory Law, Environmental Law and Real Estate Law, and Who’s Who Legal: Canada 2017 in Energy, Government Contracts and Environmental Law. In 2015, Jim was named “Lawyer of the Year” in Energy Law by The Best Lawyers in Canada.

Jim has been involved in many community initiatives such as being a member of the Board of Governors of St. Clement’s School, past clerk at Rosedale United Church and was a former board member of the Evergreen Foundation.
