Description
Brendan Coffey has been at Bayne Sellar Ertel Macrae since he began his articles in 2019. He was called to the bar in 2020 and has been practicing criminal defence since then. He carries a mixed trial and appellate practice covering jurisdictions across the province. Brendan appears regularly in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.

In addition to his own files, Brendan has worked with senior counsel on a wide range of matters dealing with sexual assault, drug trafficking, firearm-related offences, and homicide.

Brendan has developed a keen interest in search & seizure law, particularly with assessing and challenging search warrants.

Prior to his time at the firm, Brendan attended Queen’s University and received a Juris Doctor in 2019. Brendan was active in the moot court program, winning the prize for best factum at the 2018 Laskin constitutional moot and placing as a finalist at the 2019 Gale criminal law moot. He was the recipient of both the Senator Frank Carrel scholarship and the Lenczner Slaght Moot Award for excellence in the mooting program.

Brendan is a member of the County of Carleton Law Association, the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, and the Criminal Lawyer’s Association.
