Description
Mike Schafler has nearly 30 years of experience handling complex commercial cases, both as counsel and arbitrator. He holds the FCIArb (Chartered Institute) and QArb (ADRIC) designations, and brings particular expertise in auditor’s liability and financial services litigation, mining and resources disputes, professional negligence, real estate litigation, shareholder disputes, securities litigation — including proxy contests and contested M&A deals — as well as regulatory and appellate energy cases.
Mike currently serves as Presiding Member of the Canada Region National Board, a leadership role to which he was elected in 2017. He is also President of The ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. and one of the founding Committee Members of CanArbWeek. Within Dentons, Mike is a member of the Firm’s global arbitration steering group and previously co-led both the global and national Litigation and Dispute Resolution groups.
He served as a Canadian Naval Officer from 1983 to 1992 through the ROTP, navigating Destroyers and demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership, discipline, and public service throughout his military career.
