Description
Jonathan Cheng is an associate in the Municipal & Land Use Group. His practice focuses on delivering strategic advice and representation on a broad range of land development, planning, and municipal law matters. Jonathan is regularly consulted by property developers, landowners, and industries for his in-depth understanding of complex policy and regulatory changes. He has been involved in securing zoning approvals for a wide variety of development projects, including large-scale, transit-oriented communities, high density mixed-use redevelopments, and others.

Jonathan has broad advocacy experience, including planning and land development appeals, zoning enforcement, and provincial offences. He has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal (formerly the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal and the Ontario Municipal Board), the Toronto Local Appeal Body, and all levels of court in Ontario.

Professional Activities
Jonathan is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the Building Industry and Land Development Association, the Canadian Urban Institute and the Ontario Expropriation Association and has served on the executive committee of the Ontario Bar Association: Municipal Law Section.

Background
Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan articled at the Toronto office of another prominent national law firm. He also previously summered at a leading litigation boutique in Calgary.
