Joanne is skilled at negotiating and structuring business transactions for clients across a variety of sectors. With over 30 years of experience as a corporate lawyer, she is adept at understanding her clients’ goals and delivering solutions that accomplish their primary objectives. Joanne prides herself on her practical approach and responsive client service.

A member of the firm’s Corporate/Commercial Group and co-Chair of its Transportation Group, Joanne’s practice is focused on Canadian and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, reorganizations and financings. A significant portion of her practice involves the acquisition and disposition of Canadian subsidiaries by U.S. or foreign parent entities. She also advises private equity funds on buying, selling and restructuring Canadian businesses. Joanne represents banks, syndicated funds and other institutional lenders as well as commercial borrowers, in connection with secured and unsecured financing transactions.

Joanne has developed extensive experience in representing clients in the transportation industry, earning recognition as one of Canada’s leading practitioners in transportation law. She routinely advises clients engaged in truck, bus and rail operations as well as logistics services providers on transactions, licensing and regulation, cross-border issues and transportation agreements.

Her M&A industry experience extends to clients in technology, construction, manufacturing, transportation and distribution, health care, retail, energy, food services, sports and entertainment and professional services.
