Description
Daphne MacKenzie is a partner in and former Head of the Banking & Finance Group and a former member of the firm’s Partnership Board and Executive Committee. Her practice focuses on banking, project finance, restructurings, insolvency and public debt securities. Daphne acts for financial institutions and borrowers in cross-border banking and project finance transactions, and for creditors, debtors, receivers and monitors in commercial insolvencies and restructurings. She acts for private equity funds in connection with leveraged acquisitions and acts as corporate counsel to numerous Canadian corporations.
Daphne advises lenders, sponsors and borrowers in connection with project finance transactions in the mining sector. These transactions involve mining projects in Canada, the United States, South America, Europe and Africa.
Daphne has been recognized in numerous legal publications as a leading lawyer in among other practice areas, Banking & Finance, Project Finance and Asset-Based Lending.
Professional Activities
Daphne is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. She was an adjunct professor in Advanced Company Law at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law from 2002 – 2005. She also served as a member of the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA), a standing Committee of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada from 2002 – 2012 (and as Chair of the NCA from 2006 – 2012).
Background
Daphne previously practised in the firm’s London office where her practice focused on banking, government privatizations, significant project financings and restructurings including aircraft and infrastructure financings and restructurings in Eastern Europe.
