Description
Barbara’s practice includes all areas of real estate law, an area in which she has an extensive background. Before joining Brazeau Seller Law in 2014, she worked for 24 years with a large national law firm, where she gained experience in executing complex real estate, development, and commercially driven projects. She also provided advice to a wide variety of institutions in the financial services sector, as well as municipalities, in real estate and secured-financing transactions.

In addition, Barbara has been involved in public-private partnership projects working together with teams of lenders, developers, municipal representatives, engineers, and surveyors to negotiate and structure the financing, construction, and operation of various land development and infrastructure projects, including recreational facilities, housing projects, and water and sewage systems.

Her experience in municipal and planning law is deep. She has represented municipal corporations in Ontario in matters involving site plan and subdivision development work, real property and leasing transactions, municipal planning and zoning matters, and financing transactions involving debentures, guarantees, and bank loan transactions. She has represented clients at the Ontario Municipal Board hearings and committees of adjustment, and appeared before municipal council meetings on planning and development matters. She also assists clients in condominium-related matters, including providing advice to developers, condominium corporations, management companies, and unit owners.

Her practice includes the preparation of wills, powers of attorneys, trusts and estate administration.

Barbara also acts for private charities and not-for-profit organizations, including academic institutions, religious and cultural organizations, long-term health care institutions, and trade and industry organizations.

Barbara attended Carleton University, where she received a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law and English in 1982. She earned her law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1985.

Community involvement is important to Barbara. She has served as an executive committee member of the Beacon Hill North Community Association, an executive member and novice convenor for the Gloucester Centre Minor Hockey Association, and a representative on the Accommodation Review Committee of the Beacon Hill East Ottawa Secondary School Accommodation Study, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
