Description
Rodney Gill is a partner in the Municipal and Land Development Group at Goodmans. His practice spans a wide variety of municipal and administrative law matters, including building permits and approvals, property assessment and taxation, land use planning and development applications, development charges, and expropriations.

Before joining Goodmans, Rodney was a Solicitor with the City of Toronto, where he provided legal advice to City Council, Toronto’s Chief Building Official, and a variety of City Divisions, Agencies, Boards, and Commissions. He also represented the City before numerous administrative tribunals, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, and the Court of Appeal for Ontario on a broad range of administrative, civil, and quasi-criminal matters. During his time with the City, Rodney was seconded to Metrolinx, where he provided litigation support for Expropriations Act matters.

Rodney has extensive experience providing advice in relation to the Building Code Act, 1992, the Ontario Building Code, and applicable law related to the issuance of building permits, including the Planning Act, Ontario Heritage Act, Environmental Protection Act, and the Development Charges Act, 1997. He regularly works on complex permitting issues and finds efficient and effective solutions. In addition to providing dispute resolution and litigation advice, he drafts development related agreements, including conditional building permit agreements, development charge agreements, and limiting distance agreements.
