Description
I grew up in and around charities. After finishing law school, I was pleased to learn that lawyers could develop a whole career focused on meeting the legal needs of charities – and the people who run them.

My work now consists of providing practical, strategic legal advice to charities, non-profit organizations, businesses and individuals in the areas of charity law, corporate/commercial law, and wills and estates. This means helping with charity applications, CRA compliance audits, real estate transactions and developments, governance reviews, estate planning, and more. The charitable sector provides an endless variety of work.

I have worked with organizations across the voluntary sector including churches, care facilities, sports organizations, private foundations, housing providers, schools, and international development agencies.

I was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 2008. I worked for sixteen years at De Jager Volkenant, becoming a partner in this charity law firm before deciding to set up a new firm in 2024. In 2007, I completed my law degree at the University of British Columbia, where I volunteered for several years with the student legal advice program and participated in the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot at Oxford University. Before turning to law, I graduated from Trinity Western University with a degree in communications and English literature, worked for several charitable organizations, taught English in China, and operated a martial arts studio.

I now live with my wife and children in South Delta, and enjoy reading, cycling, and playing guitar and bass in my limited spare time.
