Description
John is an experienced litigator and regulatory lawyer. Prior to joining the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) as the Director of Legal Services, he was the head of litigation department at the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) and legal counsel to the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC). At OCOT, John was instrumental in developing internal processes to manage prosecutions arising from allegations of professional misconduct and litigation before the provincial offences courts throughout the province.

Before commencing his career as in-house counsel to regulatory authorities, he was a successful defence lawyer representing individuals and organizations facing criminal and regulatory charges and conducted numerous jury and non-jury trials in Ontario. Outside the BAO, John serves as the current president (chair) of the Hong Fook Mental Health Association, an organization that promotes mental health awareness and offers programs and services to the Ontario public.

In June 2019, John received the designation of Certified In-House Counsel – Canada (CIC.C) by the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association of the CBA.
