Description
David McCarthy is counsel in the Corporate Group. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial areas, specializing in mergers and acquisitions. A seasoned lawyer with over 30 years of experience, David has been involved both in Canada and internationally, in acquisitions and dispositions, corporate reorganizations, preparation and negotiation of agreements for the sale of goods and services, shareholder matters, and other commercial contracts. David is sought out for his extensive experience advising companies, their boards of directors and shareholders on complex corporate governance matters.

David has counselled domestic and multinational corporations in a variety of industries including food processing, financial services, transportation, manufacturing and distribution. More recently, he has acted for companies involved in fields as varied as retailing, gaming, internet-related activities, mining and waste collection, and has advised clients with entertainment and sports law matters.

David previously served on the Partnership Board (2018-2021) and Management Committee (2002-2008). He was Head of the Corporate Department in the Toronto office (2003-2014), and he was Head of the Toronto office Finance Committee (2014 to 2016).

Professional Activities
David is on the board of directors for Golf Canada and sits on the GC Audit & Risk and Professional Championships committees. He is also a board member for the Santa Claus Parade. He is a past member of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of Princeton University and the Alumni Council of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law. In addition, David is past President of the Princeton Alumni Association of Canada and the Men’s T-Holders Association of the University of Toronto. David is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
